Artillery Plant
Pilea microphylla
The Artillery Plant looks like an unassuming fern-like ground cover until you startle it — the male flowers literally explode pollen into the air in small visible clouds when touched or disturbed, which is where every one of its common names comes from. Your plant will stay compact at 6–18 inches tall and tends to trail nicely over the edges of a hanging basket or pot. It's non-toxic to pets and people, so that theatrical pollen launch is its most dangerous trait.

Fun Facts
The pollen-ejection mechanism is a real event you can trigger yourself: lightly tap the plant near the tiny male flowers and watch a small puff of pollen launch into the air — it's genuinely impressive for something so small.
Pet safe
